Shakthan Thampuran Palace, also known as Vadakkekara Palace, is linked to Raja Rama Varma — Shakthan Thampuran — the Cochin ruler credited with shaping modern Thrissur. The building mixes Kerala and Dutch styles.

Today it houses a museum with sculptures, coins and artefacts from the region, and its gardens make for a calm break in the city.
