Ezhattumugham: Where The Chalakudy River Splits Into Seven

Ezhattumugham, Thrissur: Chalakudy River Viewpoint Guide

Rocky channels, small river islands and quiet shade — Ezhattumugham is the calm side of the Athirappilly trip.

The name Ezhattumugham means "seven river mouths". Standing on the bank, you understand why: the Chalakudy river breaks around boulders and little islands into many fast channels.

The rapids

The water is shallow but quick, rushing white around the rocks. It is beautiful to watch, but not a place to swim.

Getting there

From Thumboormuzhi, walk across the hanging bridge. By car, take the Angamaly side road — it is about 20 km from Angamaly.

Tips

  • Best light is late afternoon, when the sun is behind you over the river.
  • Wear sandals with grip if you plan to walk on the rocks near the edge.
