A Summer Visit To Charpa, When The Falls Turn Gentle

A Summer Visit To Charpa, When The Falls Turn Gentle

Charpa Falls in Summer: What to Expect

What Charpa looks like in April — fewer people, thin silver streams and a quiet forest road.

Everyone says go to Charpa in the monsoon. We went in April anyway, and found a completely different place.

A softer waterfall

Instead of a white wall of water, Charpa had become a few silver threads running down dark rock. You could actually see the shape of the cliff and the ferns growing in its cracks.

The upside of summer

  • Almost no traffic on the road — we had the bridge to ourselves.
  • Clear skies for photos of the forest canopy.
  • Easy to combine with a long drive towards Malakkappara.

Keep in mind

It gets hot by noon. Carry water — there are few shops between Athirappilly and Vazhachal.
